This Software Directory is a collection of the most commonly requested software titles at Buffalo State. If you require software for your professional needs that is not included on this page, please contact the RITE Support Desk or pack out the faculty/staff software request form or lab/classroom software request form. Each software title has slightly different license specifications which are noted below and are subject to switch.

Microsoft Office

Office is Microsoft’s productivity suite which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access and OneNote. The suite is pre-installed on all campus-owned computers. Current Buffalo State faculty and staff can also purchase Office for a substantial discount through the Work at Home program under our Microsoft Campus Agreement.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

Adobe Acrobat is a family of application software and Web services developed by Adobe Systems to view, create, manipulate, print and manage files in Portable Document Format (PDF). Our contract license for Creative Cloud includes the applications only, and does NOT include the data storage component of Creative Cloud. This means that you must save your work to a local, network or removable drive.

Adobe Creative Cloud is a software as a service suggesting from Adobe Systems that gives users access to a collection of software developed by Adobe for graphic design, movie editing, web development, photography, and cloud services. The apps included in the Adobe CC Lite package are listed below. Our contract license for Creative Cloud includes the applications only, and does NOT include the data storage component of Creative Cloud. This means that you must save your work to a local, network or removable drive.

Apple iLife

iMovie and GarageBand, formerly known as iLife and Apple Creativity Apps (as it is still commonly called), is a suite of software applications for Mac OS X and iOS developed by Apple Inc. for organizing, editing, and publishing photos, movies, and music. The suite is pre-installed on all campus-owned Macs.

Apple iWork

Apple Productivity Apps, formerly and commonly known as iWork, is an office suite of applications created by Apple Inc. for its OS X and iOS operating systems. It includes Keynote, a presentation program; the word processing and desktop publishing application Pages; and the spreadsheet application Numbers.

ArcGIS (by ESRI)

ArcGIS is the industry standard GIS software. Buffalo State holds a campus-wide site license. ArcGIS can be installed on any campus-owned computer, and is also available to install on personally wielded devices.

Campus licensed application for 2D and 3D computer aided design (CAD) and drafting.

Camtasia Studio/Camtasia for Mac

Camtasia Studio and Camtasia for Mac are software suites, created and published by TechSmith, for creating movie tutorials and presentations directly via screencast, or via a direct recording plug-in to Microsoft PowerPoint.

GoToMeeting Free

GoToMeeting is a web-hosted service created and marketed by the Online Services division of Citrix Systems. It is an online meeting, desktop sharing, and movie conferencing software that enables the user to meet with other computer users, customers, clients or colleagues via the Internet in real time.

Mathematica (by Wolfram)

Mathematica is a symbolic mathematical computation program, sometimes called a computer algebra program, used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical, and computing fields.

MATLAB

MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and fourth-generation programming language. A proprietary programming language developed by MathWorks, MATLAB permits matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages, including C, C++, Java, Fortran and Python.

Minitab

MinitabВ®, originally intended as a implement for instructing statistics, is a general purpose statistical software package designed for effortless interactive use. Minitab is well suited for instructional applications and is most popular as a instructing instrument; however, it is also powerful enough to be used as a primary contraption for analyzing research data. R is a programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing. The R language is widely used among statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis.

SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics, multivariate analyses, business intelligence, data management, and predictive analytics. Home use access is available to faculty who instruct SAS and their students via Citrix XenApp. XenApp is an application virtualization technology that permits users to access designated apps from any computer, tablet or smartphone.

Skype is an application that specializes in providing movie talk and voice call services. Users can exchange text and movie messages, files and photos, and create conference calls.

SPSS (by IBM)

SPSS Statistics is a software package used for statistical analysis, survey authoring and deployment (IBM SPSS Data Collection), data mining (IBM SPSS Modeler), text analytics, and collaboration and deployment (batch and automated scoring services). Home use access is available to faculty who train SPSS and their students via Citrix XenApp. XenApp is an application virtualization technology that permits users to access designated apps from any computer, tablet or smartphone.
