How to Fix WhatsApp Crashing, Not Working in iOS 8
WhatsApp is a primary alternative of iOS stock Messages app, however, many people a serious issue that WhatsApp crashing, not working in iOS eight beta, even the latest iOS eight beta five also not been able to solve this problem.
For those having endless issues with whatsapp crashing. If you send any word that has a dual f in it I.e “off” This will cause the app to crash totally. This is likely the reason group talks are crashing too – logs demonstrate dispatch queue error being the main culprit
WhatsApp certainly will not get an update specifically for the beta version of iOS, we had to wait the official brings an update for fixing this issue after iOS eight to public. However, there are about a month from the official version of iOS eight release, before this Is there a way to temporarily fix this crashing? makes WhatsApp back to work decently in iOS 8.
Many hard-working people who have given some solutions in macrumors forum. If you also encountered this issue in iOS 8, check out the ways posted below.
Method 1: The Simplest One
1. Delete any thread which causes a crash: Swipe left on the conversation, tap on Delete and you can commence the conversation again. If it’s a group thread, this might be a problem but you will have to do this if you want to prevent WhatsApp from crashing. Also, you’ll have to do this every time your friend sends any message containing those letter-combinations.
Two. Prevent backup-restores within WhatsApp: If you attempted to fix the problem by deleting and re-installing WhatsApp, chances are that the app attempted to restore from an old backup. Now, backup talks can contain conversations with words having those ligatures. (ff, fi, tt). That can make WhatsApp crash. So, if you re-installed WhatsApp, do not restore a backup.
There are some geek solutions to fixing the problem without deleting the conversations. These include using SQL code to alter the data contained in the .sqlite files that Whatsapp stores on your iPhone. If you’re convenient with some code or willing to risk, here’s method two.
Method Two
For those of you who are ready to be bolder, and install a beta version of Whatsapp IPA, here’s a solution:
To get this method to work, you will need to have registered UDID (that’s mostly done if you can install iOS eight betas) but you should also have certificates and provisioning.
Two. Connect your iPhone. Open iModSign.
Trio. If you see a certificate, select it and click on Use This Certificate.
Four. Now, haul the Whatsapp beta file you downloaded in step 1, into the box that says Haul .IPA Here. (alternatively, you can also click on Browse for IPA file and select the downloaded Whatsapp beta file).
Five. Once done, the beta file is re-signed. This means you can now run the IPA file on your iPhone. To install Whatsapp beta, just haul the re-signed IPA file into iTunes and sync.
6. Open Whatsapp. If everything went correctly, it should no longer crash.
This method involves more technicalities like provisioning and if you aren’t indeed familiar with how to get your UDID registered and certified, you might want to switch to the other methods.
Method Trio
Whatsapp stores all the talk data in an .sqlite file. In this method, we’ll be editing that file to substitute all ff, fi or tt as “f f”, “f i” or “t t”. (a space inbetween the letters).
1. Turn off icloud documents for whatsapp (Settings> icloud>Documents & Data) and also turn off any funky accessibility settings you might have like zoom or bold as they also cause issues with whatsapp. Turn off wifi and turn on airplane mode(prevents you get fresh messages during the process) Abandon whatsapp and close it fully(dual tap home button and swipe it away).
Two. Download and install iExplorer (free trial)
Three. If you don't have anything that can connect to sqllite databases I'd suggest you go with Navicat for SQLite (free trial). Download and install.
Four. Butt-plug in your iphone and open up iExplorer. Click “Apps> WhatsApp> Documents” right click “ChatStorage.sqlite” and export to folder.
Five. Go to the location you exported the file to and make a copy of it for a backup. Open the sqlite file in navicat. Click on the connection in the left mitt panel and rightclick on the database think its called “main” and select “Fresh Query”.
6. A fresh window should emerge, click on the “Query Editor” tab and paste in.

7. Click the Run button and the query will execute. Exit Navicat and copy the sqllitefile back into the Whatsapp directory on your iphone. Whatsapp will still crash when ever you receive a message with these combination but when you reopen it, it should work fine.
Observing as the issue will most likely be stationary by the time iOS8 goes public it is very likely best to liquidate these triggers once its stable. Just repeat the previous steps but run these queries instead.
This method involves more technicalities like provisioning and if you aren’t indeed familiar with how to get your UDID registered and certified, you might want to switch to the other methods.
