Fresh Facebook and Messenger apps arrive on Windows ten today
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said back in October that the company was "all in on Windows Ten." After months of beta testing, Facebook is launching its fresh Facebook and Messenger apps on Windows ten today. While Facebook already has an existing Windows eight version of its desktop app, today’s release brings it in line with iOS and Android versions thanks to some feature additions.
Reactions, stickers in comments, and a column for birthdays and event reminders are all present, and Facebook has even created a built-in browser to persuade users to share articles to their News Feed. Live movie broadcasting isn’t supported just yet, but it should be arriving shortly.
On the Messenger side, the Windows ten app is exactly what you’d expect. Messenger for Windows ten has native desktop notifications, which means that messages will show up in the Act Center. Messenger for Windows ten also supports photo sharing, stickers, group conversations, and GIFs. It essentially looks like a packaged version of Facebook’s Messenger web app, but it’s a native app with support for Windows Ten’s notifications. Payments, voice / movie calling, and taking fresh photos / movie in the app aren’t supported at launch, but Facebook will be updating Messenger over time.
While both the apps launch for Windows ten desktop today, they won’t be available on Windows ten Mobile just yet. Facebook and Messenger are arriving on Windows ten phones "later this year", according to the company. Both the fresh Facebook and Messenger apps for Windows ten are rolling out today, but it may take some hours before they’re fully live in each Windows Store worldwide. Facebook is also announcing an updated Instagram app for Windows ten Mobile today.
