You’ve very likely seen it, more and more often these days; a little button that pops up on the side of your screen while browsing a website, asking if you want to talk for live support. A box appearing in the corner, meant to mimic an incoming message from Facebook, with a canned saluting from someone who ostensibly works for the site you’re browsing. Some other notification, perhaps an exit script, asking if you have any questions and proposing the availability of live talk.
All of these are examples of scripts that connect a user to a real human being, one who is standing by ready to response any questions – and go after up on leads – when introduced with them. A cynical web user might wonder if such mechanisms ever work. They might suspect the sordid truth, that the “employee” on the other end is living in India and following a copy and pasted script. Is this true, or do the plugins connect to real employees, and do they indeed work?
The Benefits of a Live Talk Script
Think about a website conversion as a matter of trust. A lot of what you’re doing in marketing is getting people to trust your site, when you’re not there to reassure them. Olark, Unbounce’s live talk script, is one option you have for a talk plugin. I don’t know that I’d call it one of the top three to recommend, however, and for one reason. You’re limited in the CMS platforms you can use to get it to work. While it isn’t as limited as when it came out – stringently Unbounce only – it’s still not flawlessly available. However, if you’re using SalesForce, WordPress or Magento, it’s available and free.
Top Three Live Talk Scripts
Which three live talk scripts do I recommend, then? Here are some I’ve found that do most anything you could want.
Live Talk Script – Appropriately and simply named, this talk script suffers from a somewhat poorly planned website. While they could optimize their landing page, their talk script is ideally functional. It makes it particularly effortless for one operator to manage several simultaneous conversations.
Unspoiled Talk – A quick and effortless to install talk used by over 150,000 businesses, this script host recently added the capability to create a individual talk for a private profile page. Want to set up a direct line to a particular person in your business? Use the private talk page. Unspoiled Talk only has one drawback, and that’s the limitations on the free version. You can only have one widget active and you’re limited in both the number of monthly talks and the saved talk history. Still, the paid version is only $Five a month, which is exceptionally trivial for the benefits a talk brings to the table.
LiveZilla – No relation to Mozilla, LiveZilla is one of the more substantial, sturdy and varied talk scripts. It works on mobile, it works with repeat customer talk histories, it’s quick and effortless to install, and it even has a ticket system for advanced support. Again, the free version is a little limited, but it’s not that bad to buy a premium license.
Notable Mentions
PHP Live Talk – This particular talk script, obviously enough, runs on PHP and MySQL, which most sites will have on the back-end. If you’re running on WordPress, it works there as well. It’s clean, crisp and modern, it supports emoticons, it can be made full-screen, and more. You can set up ready messages, or you can have a live person on the other end. Notably, it supports mobile as well. The talk operator is able to see the page the user is on, permitting for quick and effortless support with a private touch.
The only drawback to this particular talk script is the price. In other words, it isn’t free. That said, it’s still pretty cheap.
Movie Talk – This one is particularly interesting in that it concentrates on live movie talk, like a Skype call or a Google Hangouts, but using its own API. If you have a charismatic salesperson at the helm, it can be amazing. Again, not free, but worth a look.
