Today, we’re excited to roll out some fresh features for your one-on-one and group movie talks on Messenger – like animated reactions, filters, masks and effects, plus the capability to take screenshots. You can now share how you’re feeling with a reaction, add a filter to look and feel your best, make someone laugh while wearing a bear mask, and even save photos from your movie talks. To commence a movie talk, simply tap the movie icon in the top right corner of the screen in a one-on-one or group conversation on Messenger. From there, you can commence adding some expressive flair to your movie talks with the fresh features! Add a movie reaction during your movie talks to permit you to amplify your emotions and express love, laughter, surprise, sadness or anger. The reactions will animate on the screen and then vanish, so you can express yourself in the moment, during the movie talk. Movie filters permit you to look and feel your best while movie talking on Messenger! You can choose from a diversity of filters, from subtle lighting tweaks to bold color switches, like black and white or crimson. You can preview what the filter looks like before letting other people in the movie talk see you. Attempt on fresh, joy masks during your movie talks on Messenger. Some masks even have hidden effects. We also have added animated effects to your movie talks, like falling hearts and twinkly starlets. Masks and effects stay on the screen for the duration of the movie talk (or until you take them off or switch to another one). Lightly save and send photos from your movie talks to reminisce the conversation afterwards. During a movie talk, simply tap the camera icon to take a photo screenshot. The photo will save to your phone’s camera roll and from there, you can determine if you want to share to your Day on Messenger, or post on other social media accounts. Or, send it to the people you’re talking with. As always, we hope you love these fresh, delightful movie talk features on Messenger!

Facebook is updating movie talk in Messenger today with some fresh features, including live filters, animated reactions, and the capability to directly save screenshots.

The reactions take the five reaction emoji from Messenger — a heart, a smiling face, a astonished face, a sobbing face, and an angry face — and animate them as an overlay on your face. For example, the blubbering emoji will cause animated tears to fall from your eyes, while the heart creates a halo of exploding hearts around your head.

Similarly, users will be able to apply Instagram-like filters to the live movie talk, along with Snapchat-style augmented reality masks. (These have already been part of Messenger for a while.) This marks a uncommon time when Messenger actually has a feature before its competitors. While Snapchat suggested augmented reality filters very first, the addition of the feature to Messenger’s live movie talks is a very first for the field.

Lastly, Facebook is adding an instant screenshot button, so you’ll be able to save all these cool fresh effects straight to your camera roll without ruining the shot with the Messenger interface.

The fresh Messenger features should be rolling out today.
